Chelsea did the needful on a rainy night at Swansea City to pick up all three points to keep alive their slender hope of making it to the UEFA Champions League. The Blues were bright early on but battled on to hold on to their one goal as Swansea threatened later on. Here are the Chelsea player ratings from their 1-0 win against Swansea City.
Thibaut Courtois: 7
Not involved in most of the match as Swansea City were unable to make a dash. However, was heavily involved towards the end with the Swans throwing in everything. Did well to deal with everything and will be happy to have kept a clean sheet on a rainy night.
Victor Moses: 5.5
A disappointing outing from him. He got booked early on and had to be careful throughout. He looked slow and could not get into the match. Terrible with his crossing, he needs lessons on how to attack as a wing back.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 8.5
What an asset to have in defence. He not only tackles well but has also become an excellent reader of the game. He is smart with his defensive movement and that is a rare quality. He tackled well and kept his side steady towards the end.
Gary Cahill: 7
Better than what he has been churning out in the recent months. He was solid in defence and did not let the slipper surface affect his game, Did well to keep Ayew quiet.
Antonio Rudiger: 7.5
His improvement has been excellent and he has helped his team looked steadier at the back. He was once again good with his distribution and excellent in one-v-one situations. A real asset for the future.
Emerson: 7
It is not easy to replace the player who made the PFA Team of the Year. However, Palmieri did not put a foot wrong and was impressive once again tonight. Surely making a claim to get more game time next season.
Tiemoue Bakayoko: 4
Slow and inefficient once again, he was the one responsible for slowing down Kante and Fabregas time and time again. Loses every 50-50 battle and ineffective in possession.
N’Golo Kante: 8
Ruled the midfield and was effective with his interceptions
Cesc Fabregas: 8.5
A sublime finish to put Chelsea into the lead, he kept picking out Hazard at will and could have been more dangerous on a drier pitch.
Eden Hazard: 7.5
A good first half but a sluggish second half. Excellent assist for Fabregas’ goal.
Olivier Giroud: 6.5
Tough day for him as he had only Hazard to link up with and was sloppy with his passing on occasions.
