Italian news outlet, Tutto Mercato claims that Hull City’s Abel Hernandez has refused to renew a contract with the Championship outfit and looking to interests from the Serie A. However, Celtic have also been named as one of his summer destinations and even though further inquiries have not been made just yet.
Will the Scottish Premiership be the right fit for the Uruguay international and more so, can he fit into Brendan Rodgers’ system? The former Liverpool head coach has put together a team full of young raw talent and has led the team to their 7th consecutive league title.
He already has Moussa Dembele in the position along with Leigh Griffiths as the second option. Whether Odsonne Edouard will extend his loan spell for another season is unknown but a summer arrival is anticipated.
Dembele’s departure was heavily speculated upon earlier in the season and Premier League outfits poured in with lucrative offers. However, he seems to have returned to regular selection and has improved his goal tally to 14 for the season.
If he is to quit the Hoops next summer, that could very well pave the way for Hernandez. After all, the 27-year-old is a proven international in England’s top divisions. The current season might not reflect all of his abilities mostly due to the Achilles tendon injury he suffered but he is capable of producing some magic in the final third.
He has netted the ball 7 times in 8 games this season and 38 in total for the Tigers. Hernandez is one of the more pacey forwards who can take on defenders on the dribble. He might not be prolific with the ball but an eye for goal, he does possess.
He has been capped 27 times for the Uruguay national team and is the second choice behind Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez in the starting lineup for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Highly physical and fast-paced attack is his bread and butter and Rodgers could easily fit him into his style of play.
