Celtic are interested in securing the services of Red Star Belgrade centre-back Vujadin Savic this summer. According to recent reports, the Hoops are ready to make a swoop for the Serbian defender when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is understood that the Glaswegian side are currently on the lookout for a new centre-back in the summer transfer window and Savic fits the bill perfectly.
Their first-choice centre-backs, Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata have been far too inconsistent this season while the jury is still out on the duo of Kristoffer Ajer and Jack Hendry. Hence, Celtic are in a dire need to bring in a quality centre-back this summer. Some sources are now claiming that the Hoops will look to secure a deal for Savic in the off-season with Red Star Belgrade asking for a fee in the region of £1.5m.
It is believed that the Glaswegian giants will send scouts to catch him in action when he laces up to face Partizan on Saturday. Savic joined the Belgrade side from Sheriff in the summer of 2017 and has put in some solid displays during the course of this campaign. The 27-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Serbian side this season in all competitions and is yet to find the back of the net so far.
The Bhoys are currently leading the Scottish Premiership table with a tally of 75 points in 33 matches. They need one more victory to clinch the top-flight title once again. However, the Hoops supporters are disappointed with their side’s showing in European competitions over the last few years.
The addition of a quality centre-back like Savic will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ defensive options ahead of the new campaign as they look to put in a much better performance in the next edition of the UEFA Champions League. Rodgers have the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata, Kristoffer Ajer and Jack Hendry vying for a place in Rodgers’ starting eleven. The potential signing of Savic will add more competition for places in the Bhoys squad.
