Celtic are interested in securing the services of Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun this summer. According to recent reports, the Hoops are planning to make a move for the Rubin Kazan striker when the transfer window opens in the summer. The 23-year-old has been dubbed as the ‘Iranian Messi’ and has scored 22 international goals in 30 appearances for the Iranian national team so far in his career.
Azmoun is currently plying his trade at Rubin Kazan in the Russian top-flight and has featured in 25 matches for them this season in all competitions. He has found the back of the net four times while creating six assists for the Russian outfit so far. However, his international record has been mesmerizing and at 23, he has become Iran’s fifth highest goalscorer. The Iranian’s remarkable contributions in front of goal have helped his country qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia later this year.
The Hoops could definitely use his services as Brendan Rodgers’ side looks to maintain their dominance in domestic competitions next year. However, they are not the only ones looking to secure Azmoun’s signature, with Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Fulham all keeping tabs on his progress in Russia.
Rodgers’ Hoops are leading the league standings in the Scottish top-flight with a tally of 75 points in 34 league fixtures. Although, their performance in European competitions in this campaign left a lot to be desired. Hence, they are in need to bring in some quality players this summer so that they can improve their Champions League performance next season.
The addition of Azmoun will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Celtic have the likes of Moussa Dembélé, Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard (on loan) vying for a place in the Hoops’ first-team. The potential acquisition of Azmoun will definitely improve their squad significantly and add more competition for places within Rodgers’ squad.

The Iranian international is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions up top. Azmoun primarily operates as an out and out forward but can also play as a secondary striker or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for the Hoops. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Azmoun and whether he ends up making a switch to Celtic Park in the near future.
