Manchester United have been linked with young Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney. Tierney has been part of the Celtic youth system and has since graduated to the first team becoming a regular starter for his club. At just 20, he has already represented his national side Scotland 9 times.
Manchester United are having to do with a makeshift fullback this season in Ashley Young as Jose Mourinho isn’t too impressed with Luke Shaw. Shaw who has had an injury-ridden career at United has failed to establish himself as the first choice full back.
As he is a Celtic product and an out and out Celtic fans since childhood, Tierney is a fan favourite among the Celtic faithful. Tierney is a hard tackling and an aggressive full back. He is defensively strong and can provide good overlapping runs for the wingers as well. Tierney is a complete modern day full back as he is good at defending and is adventurous while going forward.
Mourinho has indicated that his squad will be in need of a shakeup this summer as he will look to mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season. United have been defensively solid this season but a lot of credit for that goes to David De Gea as he has been instrumental at the back again.
If United want their man there will be no stopping them as they have the financial power to get almost any player at their club. It will be interesting to see whether Tierney will be moving to Manchester as he might struggle for regular starts. United have also been linked with the more experienced and proven left back in Ryan Bertrand and if they sign both Bertrand and Tierney, Tierney will most probably have to bide his time on the bench and playing for the reserve team.
