High flying Burnley are being linked to West Brom defender Craig Dawson. The Clarets are currently enjoying a great season under Sean Dyche and are in prime position to bag the Europa league spot. Even a top half finish would have been considered as an achievement for Burnley as they have certainly punched above their weight in the Premier League this season.
Dawson’s team, West Brom, on the other hand, are expected to go down in the Championship as they have secured just 4 wins in their entire campaign and are currently at the bottom of the table. They started the season poorly under Tony Pulis and as a result, he was sacked. Alan Pardew was brought in but he failed to inspire his men as they suffered one dismal result after another. With just one win, Pardew was also shown the door from the Hawthorns and David Moore took over the role of caretaker manager.
Dawson has been a loyal servant for the Baggies as he has been part of the club since 2010. But now with West Brom destined to go down, Premier League clubs can pounce on certain players as the club will be selling some of their key assets to balance the book as they won’t be receiving financial benefits of playing in the Premier League anymore. According to reports, the Clarets will be willing to shell £10million for the English defender.
Dawson is a versatile defender and started as a right back for the Baggies. However, he has also been filling in the centre back role this season. He is a traditional no-nonsense defender who is particularly good in the air. He has also popped in with few crucial goals for West Brom over the years and is a big threat for the opposition during set-piece situations.
He has never represented England at the senior level but was part of Great Britain’s Olympic team for the 2012 London Olympics. Many consider him underrated and many are of the view that if he would have played for a top English club, he would have gone to represent the country by now.

Burnley could be the perfect suitors for him as they can give Dawson the chance to continue playing in the English top flight. Next season Sean Dyche’s men will have extra games as they will be playing in the Europa League, for which, they will need depth in their squad to compete on all the fronts. Burnley’s success this season has been on the back of strong defensive performances and the signing of Dawson will certainly enhance their squad further.
