The football community was in for a shock yesterday as Arsenal’s longtime manager, Arsene Wenger decided to step down from the top job after the end of the season. He dedicated his 22 years for Arsenal and the Frenchman is also the longest-serving manager in Premier League history.
Arsenal released a statement from Wenger on their website. It said–
”I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.
“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.
“I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special.
“I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.
“My love and support forever.”
As soon as the news broke out the rumour mill started churning to find out who will be Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the club and according to some reports the current Juventus boss, Massimiliano Allegri is the frontrunner for the top job at The Emirates. However, Arsenal will have to fight it out for his signature as clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain are also after him according to reports.
Replacing a man of Wenger’s magnitude is not going to be an easy task for Arsenal board. It is expected that Wenger will also play some sort of a role in choosing his successor.
Allegri has done a terrific job with the Italian giants as he has delivered three back to back league titles and are comfortably placed to win it again this year. The Juventus boss took over from his fellow countryman Antonio Conte, as he went on to manage the Italian National side. Even in Conte’s reign, Juventus were dominant in the league but Allegri has made them a force to reckon with in Champions League as well. Under him, they played two Champions League finals and that can be considered as a big achievement.
Allegri’s team is built on a strong defensive line and players who can counter-attack with pace. Arsenal are currently in need of defensive stability and a manager like Allegri can certainly improve them. One other advantage the Gunners might get by having Allegri at the club is, he can bring some of his trusted players from Juventus which will boost the Arsenal squad further.

The Italian though has never managed any club outside of his home country and that can be a bit of an issue as Premier League can be a different ball game altogether. Nevertheless, if Arsenal can lure the Italian tactician at London, fans will be won over as he is highly rated in the footballing community. Only time will tell whether he will bring success if he joins the Gunners.
