Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have had a topsy-turvy season so far and the players had to return from the international break and report back to duty again. The first challenge came in the form of Paul Lambert’s struggling Stoke City and Arsenal had to ensure that they won against them to move up the ladder ahead of Burnley and cement their place at the 6th position and so they did. Two late goals from Pierre Aubameyang and one from Lacazette were enough to dispatch the Potters.
Here’s how Arsenal players have been rated:-
David Ospina – 6/10
Was not really troubled today and a clean-sheet will help his confidence.
Hector Bellerin – 6.5/10
Made good runs down the right on occasions and he too wasn’t troubled a lot. A decent game after so long for the Spaniard.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6.5/10
Needs to work harder on his passing because the first half passes made by him were simply atrocious. Solid while defending though as he gave Sobhi and Diouf no chance during challenging moments.
Calum Chambers – 6/10
Complimented Mustafi really well and had a tidy game.
Nacho Monreal – 6/10
Had a little tough task with Shaqiri but didn’t really suffer single-handedly. Provided a dimension in the attack but that’s pretty much it.
Mohamed Elneny – 6.5/10
Tidy with his feet and showed good work rate. Booked for a reckless challenge.
Aaron Ramsey – 8/10
One of the consistent performers on the pitch for me today after a slow beginning. Made clever runs and played accurate passes and provided that little extra for his team.
Mesut Ozil – 8/10
Sharp and decisive and Arsenal wouldn’t have won the game without him today. Won the penalty for the first goal and looked to be in control throughout whenever he had the ball at his feet.
Jack Wilshere – 6.5/10
Clever at times but mediocre too at times. Decent game for the English midfielder and nothing really special.
Danny Welbeck – 4/10
Very poor today. Has to improve his game in several departments. Even the accuracy of his shots looked woeful.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8.5/10
Had a silent game until after 75 minutes. Took his penalty well and his second was supreme. He cut across the ball with brilliant technique to give Arsenal a clear victory.
Substitutes:-
Alexandre Lacazette – 7/10
Really strong even for his frame and took his penalty nicely to score a very important goal if you consider his confidence.
Henrikh Mkhitariyan – N/A
Granit Xhaka – N/A
