Arsenal, who got the better of Russian side CSKA Moscow in their crucial Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday, are being linked with their ace midfielder Aleksandr Golovin. According to reports, the news in Russia is that Arsenal is keen on landing their man in the summer.
Ahead of the match, Wenger was asked about the possible transfer of the CSKA star but Wenger chose to remain tight-lipped. Wenger said: “You can understand that I if I speak to you about respect, that I do not want come out and speak about transfers of some CSKA Moscow players to Arsenal. That is not the case and the moment and I don’t think it would be appropriate to talk about something like that the day before the game.”
Arsenal who have struggled this season in the Premier League will surely be hoping for a good run in the Europa League. They are out of contention in the top 4 race as they are 13 points behind Tottenham Hotspur and their only saving grace this season could be the Europa League. On the back of such performances, Arsenal has had a poor turnout at the Emirates in last few games but it is expected that the fans will come out in numbers for the knockout 1st leg clash against CSKA Moscow.
Golovin often starts as a central midfielder but is versatile as he is adept at operating on both the wings. He has also been deployed as a defensive midfielder. At just 21, he has managed 17 International caps for his country Russia and is supposed to play a huge role in the upcoming world cup for the home team.
He is blessed with quick feet and is good on the turn, which helps him wriggle out of tight situations. He has a good passing range and is generally an attack-minded player who likes to play direct football as he is not afraid of taking on defenders. However, with so much talent at his disposal, he sometimes falls prey to youthful naivety.
Golovin has scored 5 times in 29 games this season for Cska Moscow. He scored a crucial goal in 3-2 win over Lyon in the previous round of the Europa League. Arsenal currently is in need of commanding midfielder who can lead their attack. They have a host of talent in the offensive half of the pitch but it’s the defence and midfield which have let the team down. Wilshere, Ramsey and Xhaka have all been inconsistent and Arsenal can look up to someone like Golovin. He is young so he will take time to come to terms with life in the Premier League but he can be a good prospect for Arsenal as he has a good set of skills and abilities.
