Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson ahead of the summer transfer window. According to recent reports, the Gunners are looking to secure the services of the English shot-stopper when the transfer window opens in the summer. The 21-year-old keeper has gone out on loan to League One promotion contenders Shrewsbury Town and has put in some solid displays during the course of this season which has caught the attention of a number of clubs that includes Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Some sources are now claiming that the English talent is eager to leave Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign in search of regular first-team football. However, it is understood that the Red Devils will make one last effort to keep hold of his services by offering him a new deal to extend his stay at the club. It will now be up to Henderson to make up his mind with regards to a decision on his future club in the off-season.
Henderson sealed a move to Manchester United at the mere age of 14 after playing for six years at the Carlisle United academy. He has also been involved with the England national team at various youth levels but is yet to make a breakthrough in Jose Mourinho’s senior squad. The Whitehaven-born keeper is currently out on a season-long loan deal at Shrewsbury Town which is set to run out at the end of the season. He has also had loan spells at Stockport County and Grimsby Town in the early parts of his career.
Arsenal are currently in the 6th position in the Premier League standings, just five points behind Chelsea going into the business end of the campaign. It looks highly likely that they won’t finish in the top 4 so all of their eggs are now in the Europa League basket. The Gunners are aiming to win that competition in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The addition of Henderson will undoubtedly bolster Arsene Wenger’s goalkeeping options ahead of the new campaign. The North London outfit have the likes of Petr Cech, David Ospina and Matthew Ryan Macey vying for a place in Wenger’s senior team. The potential signing of Henderson will definitely add more competition for places in the Gunners squad.
The English keeper has made 38 appearances for Shrewsbury Town this season, conceding just 30 goals while keeping 16 clean sheets in all competitions. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Henderson and whether he ends up making a move to the Emirates Stadium in the near future.
