Arsenal have been linked with the highly-rated Ajax defender De Ligt. De Ligt has been on the radar of many top European clubs and Arsenal will find it tough to get him at the Emirates. He is just 18 and already a regular starter for Ajax and at this age, he is being touted as a big star for his nation as well.
He was also being linked to the Spanish Giant, Barcelona but it came out that the defender wasn’t keen on a move as he wants regular first-team football. He has already captained the Ajax team in absence of the regular captain Joel Veltman.
It’s being reported that Ajax will demand something in the region of £50m for De Ligt. Such money looks quite high for such a young talent but one can understand that why Ajax want that much for him. They are aware that De Ligt will most likely move on to bigger and better leagues and with his best years yet to come that price tag looks justifiable enough in today’s day and age.
Arsenal are having a poor season according to their standards as they are lagging way behind in the top 4 race. The Gunners only hope this season could be the Europa league as they are in the semi-finals and will be facing the much fancied and tournament favourites Atletico Madrid for a spot in the final.
Arsenal signed some great attacking talents in the last two transfer windows. The likes of Lacazette, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan have given them an attacking edge but they have struggled badly on the defensive front. Mustafi who was signed as a replacement for Per Mertesacker was expected to lead the backline but his performances have been criticised as he has made some poor judgements and errors. Arsenal is yet to register a single point away from home this year in the Premier League and that has largely been down to poor defence.

De Ligt is a young prospect and if Arsenal signs him, it will be a huge achievement for them as some of the top clubs are also eyeing him. He might take time to get used to life in the Premier League but he has enough potential to be a world beater and one of the best defenders of his generation. Only time will tell whether Arsenal can lure him at the Emirates.
