Leeds United fans were rejoicing when Pablo Hernandez was supposedly offered a contract extension beyond this current campaign. However, a response has not been received as of yet with reports coming in that the 34-year-old’s family has shifted back to Spain. His partner is about to give birth to their second child and this will definitely play in his final decision to continue playing in England.
Hernandez has been one of the best players for the Whites in what has been a shambolic season in the EFL Championship. The Spaniard has taken charge of the midfield and has delivered big with 9 goals and 10 assists.
His creative influence has given Paul Heckingbottom something to work with on the offensive end especially when all the strikers are misfiring on regular occasions. The Spaniard might be 34 but quite clearly is still capable of playing in the Championship.
His work rate, experience and footballing intelligence would have played a huge part in revitalizing the Whites into promotion contention next season. However, the possibility of a departure is ripe at the moment and replacements need to be lined up for an improved 2018/19 campaign.
Here are a few players United should consider ahead of the summer transfer window.
Robert Mak
Not of a similar footballing breed as the veteran but equally versatile in the midfield. Mak is currently serving a loan spell with Greek outfit, PAOK FC away from his parent club, Zenit St Petersburg and is an attacking midfielder by trade.
He has registered 5 goals and 6 assists this season and has 43 caps for Slovakia. He was signed by Zenit last season for €3.5m and could arrive at Elland Road for cheap.
Jefferson Farfan
Once a star athlete in a young FC Schalke team and a bright spark of the Bundesliga, Farfan too will be out of a contract with Lokomotiv Moscow after this season. He is capable of producing that much-needed magic from the wide areas and can drive the offence single-handedly when needed.
At 33, he is managing over 20 goals and assists in Russia and could be a good fit with the Whites.
Samir Nasri
Why not? Aim for the sky and take a few gambles. The former Arsenal and Manchester City player is currently a free agent and is only 30. He does not wish to play in less illustrious leagues like Turkey and clearly, no major team from the Premier League or the La Liga are picking him up.

Will take a major chunk of the entire wage bill but can also become one of the best players in the entire league.
