According to Spanish news outlet, Don Balon, Real Madrid have successfully convinced David De Gea in making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu following this season. The Galacticos will have to shell out €100m for the 27-year-old half of which they plan on recuperating from the James Rodriguez-to-Bayern Munich sale.
Florentino Perez has been pursuing the services of the Manchester United shot-stopper for a long time and finally might just have arrived on the ideal tactic to land him. Rodriguez has already settled into his role with the Bundesliga giants and is unlikely to come of any use to Zinedine Zidane. The Bavarians already have an option in place to buy him back permanently following his two-season loan spell.
While the Los Blancos faithful might be pleased to hear such news, this obviously spells unforeseen danger for Manchester United. De Gea has been their saviour and a loyal servant for the past 7 years. His incredible heroics in front of the United goal line has marked him to be one of the world’s best goalkeepers, if not the best, compared very strongly with Germany’s Manuel Neuer.
Losing him will leave a massive gap in the Red Devils squad almost the size of a crater. If Jose Mourinho has any plans of improving upon their current seasonal performance, a replacement will have to named and pursued fast.
The 2017/18 season is almost over and the summer transfer window is fast approaching with multiple clubs ready to spend big. Here are a few candidates who could possibly replace De Gea at Old Trafford.
Jan Oblak
The Atletico Madrid keeper has been closely linked with Arsenal and Liverpool all season long and has a release clause of £88m. If he is not the best in Europe right now, the Slovenian certainly sparks a debate over his actual capabilities.
Oblak already has over 150 appearances to his name for the La Liga outfit and is tied to the club for another 3 seasons. Like De Gea, he might not need the adjustment period in England’s top division, having proven his talent already in Europe for so long.
Jordan Pickford
Everton signed Pickford last summer from relegated side, Sunderland and are already seeing the benefits of their investment. The 24-year-old has managed to cross all of the keepers in the Premier League and has snatched up the number one spot from Joe Hart in the England national team.
Keylor Navas
Since he is now good enough for Madrid, why not look for an exchange offer? Just because Navas does not hail from prestigious academies of Europe does not mean he is not a worthy suitor for the United position.

During Madrid’s past 4 seasons, Navas has earned his place in the starting XI and has helped them to 2 consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. At 31, he is one of the most experienced La Liga goalkeepers and could a brilliant acquisition for the Red Devils.
