Chelsea’s season unwinded in the most painful yet familiar way for a Blues fan. The Blues are now out of the running for almost every trophy and their hopes of qualifying or Europe hang by a thread. They have a must-win league match against Swansea City this weekend and this is how they will be hoping to line up.
Predicted Formation: 3-4-3
Defence
Thibaut Courtois is expected to play in goal for the Blues and he will be hoping to have a comparatively relaxed match in front of goal.
In the three-man defence, club captain Gary Cahill can be expected to make a start with Andres Christensen once again rested out as he recovers from his fatigue. Chelsea’s most efficient defender Cezar Azpilicueta can be seen as the other man in defence and the Blues will know with him around, goals will not be conceded that easily. The third man can be expected to be German star, Antonio Rudiger. The technically gifted defender can be expected to play as the ball playing defender and will be tasked with moving the game forward.
Midfield
A two-man midfield axis can be seen once again. The ever dependent N’Golo Kante will be scheduled to make an appearance and control the midfield for Chelsea while his partner is expected to be Cesc Fabregas. With Kante around, Fabregas will be freed of his duties defensively and will be tasked with spreading the game and putting through the front three in on goal.
Marcos Alonso, Chelsea’s only player in the PFA Team of the Year can be expected to serve out his final match ban and AS Roma boy Emerson Palmieri can be seen once again playing as the left wing back. Victor Moses has been impressive of late and can be seen continuing down the right wing back position for Chelsea with Davide Zappacosta on the bench.
Attack
Eden Hazard has slowed down recently but still has the necessary charm to dazzle his way past defenders and into the opposition box. This means that the Belgian will be an automatic starter for his team and his partner winger can be expected to be Willian with Pedro failing to make the cut.
The big question will be up top for Antonio Conte with Alvaro Morata prone to missing out again. Olivier Giroud has been sublime of late and Conte might want to stick with the Frenchman for his upcoming games as well as he also provides a good link-up play with Hazard.
