According to latest reports, Scottish giants Rangers have secured the signing of Scott Arfield. Arfield’s contract is supposed to come to an end at the end of the 2017-18 season with Burnley. The midfielder has been part of the Clarets since 2013 and has been instrumental for them over the years.
Burnley have been flying high this season as they are in line to qualify for the Europa league. After Chelsea went through to the finals in the FA Cup defeating Southampton, it is assured now that the seventh-placed English club will be there in the European competition. Sean Dyche has been able to inspire his team and they have surely punched above their weight this season.
Such has been the performance of Sean Dyche, he could be in line to win the Manager of the season award in the Premier League. Burnley were expected to be in a relegation scrap at the start of the season. Their captain, Tom Heaton was out injured and that was a major cause of concern for the Clarets. However, the young English goalkeeper Nick Pope has stepped up in his place and now Heaton is finding it tough to break into the first team.
Arfield has been a regular for the Clarets, but this season when he was out with injury, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson has done well in the left midfield role.
Nevertheless, he would have still been an important player for Dyche’s team but now that he has secured his move to Rangers, we look at three replacements which Burnley can go after.
Michail Antonio
Antonio was the Hammers player of the season in the previous term. But this season he has struggled for regular playing time. His time has also been plagued by injuries but nevertheless, he can be a good addition for the Clarets as he has all the abilities to be a regular for them. Dyche might have to manage his game time as the 28-year-old is quite injury prone but they already have a good player in Gudmundsson in that position so both the midfielders can share the workload for the season.
Dusan Tadic
Tadic will surely like to move to a club who will be playing in the Premier League, as Southampton are current favourites for the drop to the Championship. Tadic has great abilities and will be a great asset for Burnley.
Yannick Bolasie
The Everton winger has had a start-and-stop career at the Goodison Park as he has struggled for game time. He has bursting pace and can unsettle defenders with his tricks. He can certainly be a great addition at the Turf Moor.
