Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal to extend his stay at Anfield. The Merseyside outfit has confirmed on their official website that the Brazilian has committed his long-term future to the club after signing a new contract at Melwood on Sunday.
The 26-year-old expressed his delight after signing a fresh deal and was quoted to have said, “It was an easy decision.
“The club have taken me in in an incredible way and I’ve grown a lot here with my work with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.
“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club.
“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way. They support us throughout the games and the work they do during the match is beautiful.”
Firmino signed for the Reds from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 and has lit up Anfield with some scintillating performances since then. He has been outstanding all throughout this campaign and is one of the main reasons why Liverpool are doing so well in Europe. The Brazilian forward has featured in 49 matches for the Merseysiders this season, scoring 27 goals and grabbing 16 assists in all competitions.
Klopp’s team have a tally of 72 points after Gameweek 36 and find themselves in the 3rd spot in the league standings. They are still on course to finish in the top 4, even after being held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Stoke City in their last league encounter. However, Liverpool’s main focus will turn to the UEFA Champions League with an away clash versus AS Roma looming on the horizon.
Retaining their top stars like Firmino could go a long way in helping the Reds close the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The Brazilian international has been instrumental for the Merseyside outfit during the course of this campaign and has been one of Klopp’s standout performers this term. Liverpool can’t afford to lose someone of his calibre and they have done well to secure his services for the long-run as they look to mount a realistic title challenge in the coming years.

Firmino is highly versatile and can be deployed anywhere across the frontline. He primarily operates as a forward but can also play on either flank or in the number 10 position, which makes him a perfect fit for Klopp’s “Gegenpressing” style of play. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future for Firmino and whether he can continue his success story at the Merseyside club in the near future.
