Tottenham Hotspur are looking to secure the services of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles this summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are lining up a move for the English centre-back when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is believed that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is very impressed by Lascelles’ performances for the Magpies this season and is keen on adding the defender to his squad at the end of the current campaign. He signed for Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2014.
The Magpies defensive ace has put in some eye-catching displays during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources are claiming that Pochettino has a transfer kitty of at least £120m to make additions to his Tottenham side in the off-season. With the possible departure of Toby Alderweireld this summer, the North Londoners might be on the lookout for a new defensive option with Lascelles, being one of the players that they are targetting.
The English defender has made 30 appearances for the Tyneside club this season, scoring 3 goals in all competitions. At 24, Lascelles still has his peak years ahead of him which Pochettino’s team could look to capitalise on, in the coming years.
Spurs are currently lying in the 4th position in the English top-flight table with a tally of 68 points after Gameweek 34. Pochettino is preparing his side for a crucial encounter versus Manchester United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. They are in need to make some quality acquisitions in the summer to try and close the gap to Manchester City in the coming years.
The addition of Lascelles will undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. Tottenham Hotspur have defenders such as Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier vying for a place in the Spurs first-team. The possible summer swoop of Lascelles will definitely add more competition for places in their squad.
