Arsenal has been linked with a move for Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to make a swoop for the French youngster when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is understood that the 20-year-old is also eager to make a switch to the Emirates Stadium to link up with his friend and former Borussia Dortmund teammate Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. It is common knowledge that the duo are still keeping in touch with each other since moving on to their respective clubs and could be set to be reunited in North London this summer.
Dembele signed for Barcelona last summer from Dortmund for a fee in excess of €100m. However, he has endured a tough time at the Nou Camp and a loan move out of Catalunya has been mentioned in the papers recently. Some sources are now claiming that the French youngster wants a permanent move out of the La Liga club if Barca decided to part ways with him.
The 20-year-old has featured in 15 matches for the Catalans this season, scoring one goal and grabbing six assists in all competitions. He has also earned 9 international caps for the French national team and has one international goal to his name.
Barcelona are leading the La Liga rankings with a tally of 76 points in 30 matches and are in pole position to secure another top-flight title. The Catalans are 12 points clear at the top with second-placed Atletico Madrid hot on their heels going into the final stretch of the season. It is extremely likely that Barca are going to win another La Liga title in the coming weeks and are also well on course to go through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after their 4-1 victory over AS Roma on Wednesday night.
The departure of Dembele could deplete Ernesto Valverde’s side in the off-season but the impending arrival of Griezmann could soften the blow of losing the French youngster. It is clear that Dembele needs more time to develop his game by playing regular first-team football so if it means making a switch out of the Nou Camp, then Barca should let him go either on a loan deal or on a permanent basis.
