Transfer Speculation
As per one of the latest reports by Mirror, Wolverhampton Wanderers are planning for a sensational move to lure AC Milan’s striker, Andre Silva, to the Molineux Stadium in the summer. However, the Wolves are set to face stiff competition from some of the top clubs of the continent, namely, Monaco, Arsenal and Valencia.
Fact File
Silva developed in the youth academy of Porto and he was quick to attract a lot of attention owing to his calibre. As a consequence, he was promoted to Porto’s B side and was eventually called up by the senior side during the 2015-16 season. In the summer of 2017, he was signed by AC Milan for a hefty transfer fee of £34million and is currently plying his trade for the Rossoneri.
Season So Far
The Portuguese international hasn’t had a remarkable season so far in Serie A as he has managed to score just 1 goal in 17 appearances. However, his form in the Europa League was quite decent before Arsenal knocked his employers out of the competition in the Round of Sixteen tie, as he had scored 6 goals in 10 appearances.
What Has He Got?
Silva is a shrewd attacker who constantly sniffs for goal scoring opportunities and is quite clinical up front. He is an astute passer of the ball, is quite mobile and fast and is good in the air as well. He links up well with his teammates, has the know-how to create chances and can shoot the ball handsomely from the distance as well as from close quarters.
The 22-year-old might have struggled to find the back of the net in the league, but there is no denying that he has been given limited amount of opportunities to thrive. He has started merely 5 times in the Serie A this season and with the ingredients he possesses, he needs a manager who backs and trusts him adequately.
Do Wolves Need Him?
The Championship club’s close links with Jorge Mendes should help them in materializing the deal in the summer. Promotion to the Premier League is looking quite likely to happen for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and in order to make their presence felt in the top-flight next campaign, they would need more quality in their offensive sector. Signing someone like Silva would be a massive statement of intent from the Wolves as he has the potential to inject a substantial amount of quality up front.
