West Ham United are moving forward with a deal to reward one of their best players in the club by the end of the season – Manuel Lanzini. The Argentine’s current contract is set to run till the summer of 2020 and can be extended for another year but judging by the performances he has put up over the past couple of seasons, a wage hike is only right. He currently is reported to earn around£35,000-a-week.
Both Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio have already signed new deals with the Hammers and it looks like Lanzini is next.
Manuel Lanzini has arguably been the Hammers’ best player since the departure of Dimitri Payet. He plunged the dagger into Tottenham’s title chances last season scoring on a 1-0 win on 5th May 2017. The newly appointed manager, David Moyes will be reluctant to let go of one their key players.
Manuel Lanzini marked his goal against the Spurs as one of the best moments. He said, “More important for me is not the goal though, it’s that the team played very well. Tottenham are one of the best teams in the Premier League and to win is very important for us and for us to keep going.”
His professional career started in River Plate as a 17-year-old in 2010. He moved his way up through different clubs like Fluminense and Al Jazira. He was the youngest foreigner at the age of 21 to play in the UAE Arabian Gulf League. After a string of impressive performances, he earned himself a loan move away to West Ham. The 24-year-old netted the ball 8 times in 39 appearances last season.
He has been impressive for the Hammers ever since he moved to the London Stadium and is on a promising path towards a prosperous career in the Premier League.
United’s struggle to execute an attack with grace and flow was quite evident during Lanzini’s six-week spell on the sidelines due to an injury. He made a return to first-team football last week against Liverpool. Even though David Moyes’ men were swept aside by 4 goals the Argentine did showcase the quality he brings to the table.
West Ham United are just a point off Brighton And Hove Albion in the 13th spot of the points table and are a rejuvenated side under David Moyes this season. Lanzini’s role is much more crucial to the team lacking many creative options other than Mark Noble and Joao Mario.
