West Bromwich Albion are looking to sign Trabzonspor midfielder Okay Yokuslu next summer. According to recent reports, the Baggies are interested in securing his services when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season. However, they could face stiff competition from West Ham United in pursuit of the 24-year-old’s signature.
Yokuslu has been dubbed as the new Sergio Busquets and is reportedly valued at £6.5m by the Turkish club. He has caught the eye with some dazzling displays in the top tier of Turkish football and now, a number of teams are monitoring his development ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old Turkish midfielder was touted to make a switch during the January transfer window but a move failed to materialise back then. However, the interest on the player has grown significantly since then and a potential move to the Premier League could be on the cards. Yokuslu has made 26 appearances for Trabzonspor this season, scoring 2 goals and creating one assist in all competitions.
West Brom are currently struggling in the Premier League and find themselves rock bottom of the league in 20th place with just 8 league games remaining in this campaign. The Baggies are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks after suffering another loss at home to Leicester City on Saturday. It seems highly likely that Alan Pardew’s side will get relegated this season as they are currently 8 points from safety.
The addition of Yokuslu will undoubtedly bolster Alan Pardew’s midfield options next season as the Baggies look to bounce back to the top tier of English football. However, acquiring him from under the noses of the Hammers without the lure of Premier League football would be a tough ask for the West Midlands outfit.
Yokuslu is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder but can also be deployed as a central defender which makes him an ideal fit for the Baggies. At 24, the Turkish midfield enforcer still has his peak years ahead of him which West Brom could look to utilise in the coming years. At 6ft 2inch, he is a dominant presence aerially which is why a lot of clubs are interested in his talents. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Yokuslu and whether the Baggies are successful in fending off stiff competition in pursuit of the 24-year-old’s signature.
