West Bromwich Albion are looking to bring in Brentford manager Dean Smith next summer as they look to turn their fortunes for the better next season. According to recent reports, the Baggies are weighing up their options to find a worthy successor to Alan Pardew with the Brentford boss being one of the names on their shortlist.
The 46-year-old has been touted with a move away from Griffin Park for the first time in his reign with some sources claiming that the Bees boss is one of the four short-listed candidates for the West Brom managerial position along with Östersunds FK head coach Graham Potter, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes and Leicester City assistant manager Michael Appleton.
Smith has previously taken charge of a Walsall side that couldn’t buy a victory and kept them up before turning them into genuine contenders, which ultimately paved the way for him to make a switch to Brentford. He became the Bees head coach in December 2015 while they were in a transitional phase after overhauling most of their playing staff the previous summer. Since then, he has led the Bees to a 9th placed finish in 2016, 10th placed finish in 2017 and now, they are currently occupying 11th place in the Skybet Championship standings going into the final nine matches of the campaign.
West Brom are currently struggling in the Premier League and find themselves rock bottom of the league in 20th place with just 8 league games remaining in this campaign. The Baggies are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks after another dismal showing at home to Leicester City on Saturday in a game, which they lost by a humiliating 4-1 scoreline.
It seems highly likely that Alan Pardew’s side will get relegated this season and the club might appoint a new manager this summer, who can help them bounce back to the top tier immediately next season.
The potential appointment of Smith might turn out to be a shrewd addition as he knows the English Championship well and might flourish with a team capable of providing him with more resources. Smith has taken charge of 119 matches for Brentford, winning 47, drawing 25 and losing 47 of those matches with a PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.40.
