Another game at Wembley ended up in Tottenham’s favour as Mauricio Pochettino’s men beat Huddersfield Town 2 goals to nil. The hosts maintained 75% of possession throughout the 90 minutes and their dominance reaped its reward in the 27th minute. Heung-Min Son found himself one on one with Jonas Lossl and tidily put the ball inside the net after going past the keeper with a deft touch.
The South Korean punished the Terriers again in the second half with a well-placed header after Harry Kane squared the ball off to him from the right.
Huddersfield were caught completely out of their element tonight and Tottenham could have extended the lead further in the late stages. David Wagner’s men tried to put up a fight in the second half but could not keep up with the tempo of the game. 2-0 after 90 minutes.
Here is how the Tottenham players were rated on the night.
Hugo Lloris – 6/10
Just a bystander for the majority of the game but still sharp when called upon. Distributed the ball well and put up a strong hand to stop Tom Ince’s shot open shot.
Serge Aurier – 6/10
Provided a lot going forward as he ran rampant down the right.
Davinson Sanchez – 7/10
Cool composed and clinical.
Jan Vertonghen – 7/10
The Belgian can be lauded with the same compliments as his centre-half partner.
Ben Davies – 8/10
The Welshman did quite a bit everything. Be it defensively or providing width from the left. Made key interceptions and stopped a clear chance on his goal through a well-timed challenge.
Eric Dier – 6/10
Cannot be faulted much. Did the dutiful and maintained possession from the centre circle.
Moussa Dembele – 7/10
Another solid display by the Belgian from the heart of the park. Tight spaces are his bread and butter as he cleared off opposition pressure and controlled the fast-paced tempo of the Spurs attacks.
Christian Eriksen – 6/10
He had a couple of shots on goal but none really threatened the Terriers keeper. He linked up the attacks really well and worked hard off the ball.
Dele Alli – 5/10
He struggled to get going tonight with a bunch of his passes going astray. Still a menacing presence, all thanks to his astute positional sense.
Harry Kane – 6/10
Very clever with the ball but not his best self in front of the goal. Found himself on the end of a few tap-ins and hit an open shot wide from goal inside the Huddersfield box. His best moment was the assist he got himself through the second goal.
Son Heung-Min – 9/10
Easily the best player on the pitch for Tottenham as he put on a show at Wembley right from the opening whistle. He dazzled the crowd with his turn of pace and dribbling ability and did supremely well to earn himself the brace.
Substitutes:
Erik Lamela – 4/10
Nothing out of the ordinary. Found himself in threatening positions but struggled to make anything of it.
Moussa Sissoko – 4/10
Was another body in the Spurs backline to clear off the game without a fuss. Did his bit.
Lucas Moura – NA
