Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara next summer. According to recent reports, Spurs see him as a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele and could make a move for his signature when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.
It is believed that the North London outfit are on the lookout for a long-term replacement of their Belgian star Mousa Dembele this summer. Both Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are well capable of filling his shoes in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team. However, the duo are not known for their ball-playing abilities and hence, the club could be forced to delve into the transfer market for a like-for-like replacement.
The 20-year-old Guinea international has put in some eye-catching displays in the Serie A during the course of this season/ However, he has struggled to find regular game-time this term and has been a sporadic feature in Maurizio Sarri’s first-team. The youngster has fallen down the pecking order with Jorginho, Allan and Marek Hamšik being preferred ahead of him. Spurs could now look to offer him an escape route this summer as they could be willing to provide him some time to settle into life in the Premier League and make a step up to first-team when he is ready in a few years time.
The North London outfit are keeping their fingers crossed to finish in the top 4 so that they can secure Champions League football for the next campaign. They earned a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium courtesy of a Heung-Min Son brace and a goal each from Dele Alli and Serge Aurier versus Bournemouth in their last league encounter. However, Spurs are still 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City going into the final stretch of the campaign
Pochettino has a track-record of improving young players as evidenced by the emergence of Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker-Peters and Davinson Sanchez in recent years. Hence, the Argentine manager will be the perfect man to get the best out of Diawara if he agrees to make a switch out of Naples in the off-season. The Guinean starlet has featured in 24 matches for Napoli this season, finding the back of the net once while providing one assist in all competitions.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Diawara and whether Spurs are successful in luring him to North London in the near future.
