Swansea City are eyeing up a move for Celta Vigo striker, Borja Iglesias who is currently serving a loan spell with Real Zaragoza. The 25-year-old has been in sublime form this season and has registered 6 goals in the last 6 games, extending his season tally to 16 in 31 appearances.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, Iglesias brings a lot of physicality to the game along with an ability to hold up the ball and link up with his teammates. He has been lighting up the Segunda Division and had previously caught the eye of La Liga giants, Barcelona themselves.
The Swans would benefit from the arrival of a number nine but then again, how much can they extract out of him? A 25-year-old who has seemingly struggled to make his mark in the La Liga will undergo a hard adjustment period in the Premier League.
It will also take a huge toll on Swansea’s chances for survival as witnessed in the current campaign. Carlos Carvalhal has been the saving grace in terms of club operations and rebuilding the team’s morale. His simple, yet aggressive style of play has helped the team out of the relegation scraps and in a good place to beat all the odds.
City are currently staged in the 14th spot of the points table, 3 points ahead of the bottom three and looking better than ever. The striker force has seen their fair bit of incompetence with Wilfried Bony struggling to make his mark for the entirety of the season.
Tammy Abraham has been the only dependent persona with 7 goals and 5 assists. He is serving a spell away from his parent club, Chelsea and is expected to make an illustrious return to the Stamford Bridge after this season.
His chances of breaking into the Blues lineup is quite slim with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud already in the club. Whether he will be signed to a second-season extension is yet to be seen and a permanent arrival is highly necessary.
Jordan Ayew has also risen to the occasion and delivered 10 goals, 4 of them registered since the start of the year. The club also secured the transfer of his brother, Andre Ayew who will provide a lot of offensive quality from the wide areas.
It will be interesting to see Iglesius’ make the move to the Premier League and get featured for the Swans. He could take some inspiration from Bafétimbi Gomis, currently a Galatasaray striker, who racked in 17 goals in his 2 seasons with Swansea.
