Swansea City are preparing a sensational move to bring Borussia Dortmund’s Andre Schurrle back to the Premier League next summer. According to recent reports, the Swans are set to reignite their interest in the former Chelsea winger when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.
The Welsh outfit were previously linked with a move for the German international in January but an injury to Andrey Yarmolenko resulted in Dortmund pulling the plug on any potential move. Some sources have recently claimed that Carlos Carvalhal’s side are now ready to rekindle their interest in the player and try their luck once again this summer in what could turn out to be a major coup for the relegation-threatened outfit.
Schurrle has featured in 21 matches for the Bundesliga club this season, scoring 3 goals and creating 5 assists in all competitions. At 27, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Swansea City can look to utilise in the coming years. The German has a wealth of experience at the top level playing for Mainz, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Vfl Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Chelsea in the Premier League which makes him an ideal addition if the Swans are able to pull off a transfer for the 27-year-old in the near future.
Swansea City has pulled off a miracle comeback in the Premier League under new manager Carlos Carvalhal and are currently occupying 14th place in the Premier League table following a string of positive results in the league over the past few weeks which include victories over both Liverpool and Arsenal. They are still in danger of getting relegated at the end of the season with just three points separating them from 18th placed Southampton going into the final stretch of the campaign.
The addition of Schurrle will undoubtedly bolster Carlos Carvalhal’s attacking options as they look to avoid getting themselves dragged into the relegation dogfight next season. The ex-Premier League star is highly versatile and can play in a number of different positions across the frontline. He can be deployed on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for the Swans.
The 27-year-old has already spent a successful period in English football while playing for Chelsea in the top-flight which saw him win the Premier League once as well as the League Cup. However, his biggest accomplishment to date has been winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the German national team. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Schurrle and whether he will make a switch to the Liberty Stadium next summer.
