After a decent run of form in the last few games, Swansea City have jumped up to the 14th place in the points table, four points off the drop zone. Carlos Carvalhal has done pretty well with the squad at his disposal but will not have to work harder, to try and improve on this year’s finish, next season.
He will surely look to add some quality to his first team and this has seen the Swans linked with a number of exciting names recently. One name now doing the rounds is young Tom James.
Having helped Yeovil Town to the 4th round of the FA Cup and out of the drop zone, 21-year old defender James is now a wanted man in England. The Welsh U19 international, who started his career in his hometown in Cardiff, spent four long years in the senior squad at Cardiff City Stadium but was unable to establish himself in the first team.
He made just one appearance in the domestic league before he was shipped off to Huish Park at the start of 2017. He made just a couple of appearances in his first season at the club but has now cemented his place in the first team under Darren Way, making 26 starts in League Two this season.
He also has a couple of appearances for the Welsh U19 side and is regarded as a potential star in the domestic circuit in the country and is ready for the next step. He has 40 appearances in all competitions this season, showing that he is ready to go the distances in a season as well and is a decent buy for most clubs in the Premier League.
So it does not come as a surprise that a number of English clubs are already interested in his services. Reports from Independent reveal that Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are also interested in his services but Swansea and Carlos Carvalhal reportedly lead the race for his signature.
James has been at his current club for less than 18 months till date and is not expected to cost more than £500,000. So Swansea should not miss this chance to sign up a potential superstar.
A right back by trait, the 21-year old can play across the backline and will be a decent backup to Kyle Naughton, who has been the first choice at Liberty Stadium at RB this season. Angel Rangel is the only other option in the first team for this role and James could be a cheap solution to an impending problem for the club.
