Everton were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window at the start of the season but decided to ditch their Dutch manager Ronald Koeman, who was replaced by Sam Allardyce. The English coach is expected to be active in the transfer market at the end of the season, looking for players who fit into his system for the next season.
He should also keep an eye on players who need to be sold this summer and one such player, who is extensively linked with an exit is Joel Robles.
Having joined Everton from Atletico Madrid back in 2013, Robles was expected to take up the first team responsibilities in the future but the 27-year old is yet to impress in his time at Merseyside and could be out of the club come the start of the next season. He is out of a contract at the end of the current campaign and it is evident that he has no future at Everton.
Reports from Spain claim that Everton are not interested in renewing his deal and will let him leave on a free transfer this summer. It is understood that La Liga outfit Getafe, who could lose their no.1 in Vicente Guaita, are close to signing Robles but is it the right move for the club and the player?
The Toffees have used Jordan Pickford on goal for most of the current season. Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg are both backups to the English international but have just not been able to break into the first team.
Pickford has started every league game for his side this season and is expected to continue to do so next season as well. The Spaniard got his chances in the Europa League but was able to make just two starts in the competition and has been confined to action only on the training ground.
His time at Wigan and Madrid has shown that he is a match-winner on his day but will only stay as a backup to Pickford, who is the first choice at Everton. So he has little future in England it is best for him to move back to Spain, to refurbish his career.
The Toffees already have a backup in Stekelenburg, who has been injured for most of the current campaign. They might be in the market for another shot stopper but can now spend on a young, potential star for the future and stick with him for years to come.
