According to recent reports in Italy, AS Roma are willing to listen to offers for youngster Lorenzo Pellegrini, who earlier snubbed an opportunity to join Liverpool in order to remain with the Italian giants.
However, it has been recently revealed that the 21-year-old has a clause in his current contract, meaning Roma will consider offers for the player if it’s in the region of £30m.
And as per Corriere Dello Sport, Liverpool are still interested in the services of Lorenzo Pellegrini, who could be on the verge of leaving Stadio Olimpico this summer. But do they really have a chance of luring him to Anfield?
Regarded as one of the most talented players to come out of Roma’s youth academy in recent years, Lorenzo Pellegrini is definitely some who can boast the Liverpool squad next season.
Following his move back to the Italian capital at the start of last season, Pellegrini has been an integral part of Roma’s midfield, amassing 30 appearances in all competitions this campaign. The youngster has thrived in the middle third of the pitch, largely thanks to his reliable partners in the shape of Danielle De Rossi and Radja Nainggolan.
Normally a central midfielder by trade, Pellegrini initially started out his career as a centre-forward before being brought up as a centre-back but now he’s more of an offensive midfielder, meaning his tactical past has varied a lot at a young age.
However, Pellegrini’s attacking sense is one of his strongest assets as a footballer. What he lacks in vision and creativity, he does make up for it, thanks to his knack of scoring goals as well as his driving runs from deeper positions, which are capable of causing huge trouble for any defence in the world. The midfielder has already notched up three goals this season, as well as providing three assists.
Lorenzo Pellegrini is ideally suited to Jurgen Klopp’s “gegenpressing” style of play, considering his incredible tenacity and stamina in the middle of the park. The 21-year-old is often the first one to press the opposition higher up the pitch, which helps the likes of Nainggolan and Gonalons to put pressure on other midfielders.
The Italian international can definitely play a similar role at Liverpool, with the likes of Naby Keita and co, partnering alongside him, in midfield. Keita’s overall-qualities coupled with Pellegrini’s aggression and tenacity will definitely make Liverpool one of the most fierce teams in the league next season. Therefore, it would be interesting to see as to what measure does Liverpool take, in order to lure this highly talented midfielder to Anfield this summer.
