Per talkSPORT, 21-year-old Dani Ceballos is keen on a move away from the European champions in search of regular first-team football and a move to Liverpool is apparently one he wants to force through.
After an impressive season at Betis and sparkling at the U21 Euros for Spain, Ceballos’s arrival generated a fair bit of excitement among Madrid fans. However, he has made just 19 appearances this season and no starts in the last 14 games, in spite of Zidane rotating his squad due to niggling injuries to Kroos and Modric. This doesn’t bode well for a developing player and a move to Anfield is what suits all parties well.
A technician, as good as any young midfielder in the world, Ceballos is a classy player in the centre of the pitch. He has a fine passing range, coupled with great close control and a maturity to carry the ball forward that belies his age. His style of play is quite similar to Luka Modric, as he can open up the opposition with simple yet clever passes and movements. He also has an impressive ability to read the game and break up the opposition play by intercepting passes. Hence, along with an exceptional technical ability, he’s also a decent ball winner.
Liverpool lost Coutinho to Barcelona in January and in spite of Naby Keita’s impending arrival, Klopp is looking out for a new midfielder with Emre Can’s contractual situation extremely uncertain. As the game vs United showed, Liverpool miss a creative spark from midfield that can neutralize their swashbuckling front three. The addition of a player like Ceballos who can break the lines from the middle of the park will add another dimension to an already dynamic Liverpool side. Despite the €500 million buyout clause in Ceballos’s contract, Liverpool could get the deal done for as low as £30 million, according to the report.
It is a transfer that Klopp must go for. Not only would Ceballos add more technique and quality to the Reds’ midfield, but he will also allow Klopp to rotate more to help Liverpool bridge the gap between them and Man City as the Anfield outfit look to mount a serious assault on the league title next season.
Additionally, it would allow Klopp to use Alex Oxlade Chamberlain in his more preferred role out wide as having Ceballos would eliminate the need for a using Ox as the ball carrier in midfield. All in all, it’s a deal that makes perfect sense for all parties involved.
