Newcastle United are prepared to release England youth international midfielder Mackenzie Heaney with Norwich City waiting to pounce on his signature. According to recent reports, the Canaries are keeping tabs on the English youngster who is set to depart St James’ Park at the end of the season despite being one of the club’s most promising prospects over the last few seasons. The Magpies teenage sensation sparked an international tug of war between England and Scotland who clashed heads in pursuit of his services three years ago.
Heaney played for Scotland during his school days before representing England at the youth level while featuring for the Three Lions’ Under 18 side. However, he has failed to feature regularly for the Newcastle United Under 23 side, only making 7 appearances for them during the course of this campaign. It is expected that the Magpies will part ways with Heaney when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Norwich City can be considered as a potential destination for him after the 19-year-old was on trial last week at the Norfolk club. The Canaries are now deciding whether to make an offer for his services when Heaney becomes a free agent this summer.
The Canaries are currently in 13th place in the Skybet Championship league standings, ten points behind a playoff spot. They have recently earned a 3-2 league victory against Reading which has kept their slim playoff hopes alive going into the final stretch of their campaign. The addition of Heaney will undoubtedly bolster Daniel Farke’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign as they look to mount a realistic promotion push next season.
The Norfolk outfit has just scored 41 goals in 38 league matches during the course of this campaign. They are in dire need of a few more attacking options in the summer if they are to do well in the second tier of English football in the following season. At 19, Heaney has immense potential to be a future star at Carrow Road, if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the coming years.
The youngster recently played a crucial part in Newcastle United’s International Cup triumph over their rivals Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Heaney and whether Norwich City are successful in luring him to the Skybet Championship when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
