Real Madrid are planning a surprise move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford next summer. According to recent reports, Los Blancos are aware that the English forward is not getting regular game time at Old Trafford and could make an offer for him when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.
The La Liga giants are planning a major overhaul of their squad this summer after failing to challenge their bitter rivals Barcelona in the race for the league title this season. It is believed that Zinedine Zidane’s side are looking to bring in at least one new forward this summer to help take some of the goal-scoring work-load off Cristiano Ronaldo’s shoulders. Some sources are now claiming that Rashford is one of Real Madrid’s summer transfer targets alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
Rashford has been a sporadic feature in Jose Mourinho’s first-team this season despite scoring some important goals for the club which include his brace versus Liverpool earlier this month. His situation at Old Trafford has given the Galacticos some encouragement that the youngster could possibly be available for a potential transfer this summer.
The Reds of Manchester are in the second position in the top-flight table with a tally of 65 points in 30 league matches. In any other era, United would be well in contention of winning the top-flight but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the race for the league title. The Blues of Manchester are cruising in the Premier League by a sensational 16 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to play catch up with their bitter rivals.
Retaining some of their top young talents like Rashford could go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City in the coming years. The English forward has featured in 42 matches for United this season, scoring 12 goals while making 9 assists in all competitions. At 20, he still has his peak years ahead of him which the Red Devils could look to utilise in the coming years. Jose Mourinho should do all he can to keep hold of him beyond this summer as he has the potential to be one of the greats of the Premier League.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Rashford and whether he ends up making a switch to the Spanish capital in the near future.
