Latest reports are confirming that Manchester United are in the race for AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. They will, however, face competition from domestic rivals and last season’s English Premier League Champions Chelsea for the Italian. It is believed that the young Italian has another host of clubs chasing him across Europe with rich boys like Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain and current two time European Champions Real Madrid also keen on him.
The 18-year-old Italian sensation has made the headlines several times over the last two years for his top performances. He is currently playing for Milan but given the club’s mediocre form, he could well be headed for an exit. His agent Mino Raiola has all but gone out on a war with the club executives since last summer and wanted to take Donnarumma out of the Italian city. He would prove to be an asset for Manchester United for many years should the Red Devils be able to table a substantial bid for him.
As for United, they currently have David De Gea on their roster. David De Gea has been United’s saviour in goal for the last four seasons and he is arguably the best stopper in the game right now alongside Manuel Neuer.
However, Real Madrid, who had come very close to securing the signature of Spanish stopper David De Gea in the summer of 2015 could be in the hunt for him again. After the end of this current season, De Gea will be entering his final twelve months at Manchester and it has been reported that PSG will be patiently waiting in the wings to come in with an offer for the 27-year old.
It makes sense for a club of Madrid’s profile to chase the best and with the player himself being a Spaniard, a move back to his homeland can certainly not be ruled out. This would mean that getting the Italian goalkeeper could prove to be a vital move if Manchester United are to maintain their high standards of performance in goal.
As for Donnarumma himself, the player recently signed a new contract at the San Siro last summer but his attitude in the summer was less than pleasant for the fans. They did not like the young goalkeeper’s stance and saw him as a money-grabbing player. They have on multiple occasions made their feelings heard and this behaviour of the fans has left the keeper distraught and he could be on the move come this summer to get away from the toxic treatment he is being dished out at Milan.
