Hector Bellerin currently leads the wantaway list of all the Arsenal players with the North London club ready to offload the player for bids upwards of £50m. Manchester City are one of the interested parties as Arsenal prepares to acquire financial leverage to sign more talents in the next transfer window.
The Spaniard has been a key figure in the Arsenal lineup ever since his emergence from the youth ranks. He has shared the criticism along with his fellow teammates over the disappointing moments that have come and gone over the course of the season.
Their failure to improve upon their 6th place finish has not sat well with the Arsenal faithful who have placed the majority of the blame on the management. While Arsene Wenger is pegged to be the root cause of the conundrum, Bellerin has been scapegoated too for various reasons.
The 22-year-old is currently serving a spell on the sidelines due to injury and is hoping to make a return soon. His shortcomings can be evaluated on various degrees, be it his defensive abilities or his performances on the offensive end in terms of deliveries inside the penalty box.
Currently, Wenger does not have an exact replacement for Bellerin. Calum Chambers and Ainsley-Maitland Niles has been fielded as makeshift options over the past 2 fixtures. While criticism is warranted for almost every Arsenal player this season, it would be foolish for Arsenal and Wenger to sell off a highly-rated defender.
On the other hand, City will be beneficiaries by signing a young promising full-back who has developed himself in the Premier League remarkably well. Pep Guardiola has not given up on signing more players to an already star-stacked squad and is already planning expansive plans for the summer.
However, after spending £448m on transfers, over £250m of that on the defence alone, it would be an interesting proposition to consider Bellerin as the next candidate. Pep already has Kyle Walker in the right-back position with Danilo as the backup option.
The former has flourished ever since his arrival to the Etihad and it is unlikely that Pep or almost any manager in the situation would opt to bench him for the following season.
The entire setup of the City squad has been implemented with a fast-paced offensive style of play which is enforced by the adventurous fullbacks like Walker, Delph and Danilo. They are breezing through the season with one trophy already under the bag. It is expected for the Citizens to prioritize their resources in more offensive options for the 2018/19 season rather than any defensive bolstering.
