Manchester City have been handed a huge boost in their attempts to secure the services of RCD Espanyol youngster Aaron Martin Caricol ahead of the summer transfer window which reopens at the end of the season. According to recent reports, the Spanish full-back is keen on making a switch in the summer amidst interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Napoli.
The 20-year-old has been in sensational form for the La Liga club this season and is considered as one of the young defenders in European football. His dazzling displays for the Catalans have caught the eyes of some European heavyweights with the Citizens being touted to make an offer for him in the near future.
In a recent interview, Caricol addressed his future and was quoted to have said,
“I do not know what will happen in summer, but now I’m happy here,”
“I don’t concern myself with what is being said in the media as I am happy at Espanyol, I don’t know the future but nobody does.
“The team are playing well currently and have a good dynamic, we have not lost in seven games and are approaching every game with positivity.”
He has made 30 appearances for RCD Espanyol this season across all competitions but is yet to find the back of the net so far. Caricol has also started all of the 27 La Liga matches for the Catalan club during the course of this campaign.
The Blues of Manchester are currently leading the Premier League table with a tally of 81 points in 30 league games. They are firmly in the driver’s seat as they look to earn another league title at the top tier of English football with a healthy 16 point lead over their bitter rivals Manchester United.
The Citizens’ dream of a treble this season is well and truly possible which is mainly down to the incredible form of their players. Pep Guardiola has the likes of Danilo, Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko to choose from in the left-back position while Benjamin Mendy is currently out injured. The potential addition of Caricol will definitely add more competition for places in the Citizens’ squad as they look to maintain their domination in the Premier League and European football next season.
The signing of the young Spaniard will undoubtedly bolster Guardiola’s defensive options in the next campaign and at 20, he still has a lot of time to fulfil his massive potential at the Etihad Stadium. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Caricol and whether he ends up making a switch to the Premier League in the near future.
