If you have followed Manchester City’s transfer activity over the course of the season, you will be aware of the further additions they are preparing to make in the next summer window. Paulo Dybala is the latest name to hit the probable books along with a host of talented names from all over Europe and South America.
Pep Guardiola is not entirely satisfied with the current squad he has at hand and is looking for an addition in the attacking lineup and the holding midfield position. He has already spent over £250m on his defence after bringing in Aymeric Laporte in the January window for £57.2m.
Dybala is one of the brightest names to bless the European stage in recent times with the Argentine rising to superstar status over the course of the past couple of seasons. The 23-year-old’s name came into limelight after Paul Pogba departed for Manchester United ahead of the 2016/17 season. Dybala finished the season with 19 goals in 48 total appearances and played a key role in helping Juventus to the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Even though the Serie A outfit did lose 4-1 to the reigning champions, Real Madrid by 4 goals to 1, Dybala’s talents dazzled the crowd time and time again. The left-footed maestro started off the current campaign in the same run of scintillating form but was met with a hamstring injury which somehow slowed him down.
In the opening 6 league games, he had racked up 10 goals – the kind of statistic which ran similar to his superstar compatriot, Lionel Messi. The goal tally has extended to 18 now after the weekend Serie A fixture against Lazio.
Dybala scored a superb goal deep into injury time as defending champions, Juventus won at Stadio Olimpico 1-0 on Saturday to keep the pressure on Serie A leader, Napoli.
Dybala had done nothing all game until in the 93rd minute when he brilliantly cut inside Luiz Felipe with a quick flick, showed great upper-body strength to hold off Marco Parolo, and fired into the top right corner while off balance.
The diminutive Argentina forward, who started the move by winning the ball in midfield and spraying it quickly wide to the right, sprinted jubilantly into the arms of delirious Juve fans behind the goal in the away end.
Dybala is a unique figure in the attacking lineup who is capable of doing everything with ease. He is adept in setting up his teammates while at the same time finding the back of the net. Guardiola has already implemented a fast-paced offensive style of play into the City squad which has not only seen the side flourish in the Premier League but also make a statement in the European stage.
Guardiola will be shifting all his focus towards the UEFA Champions League now and is expected to finish the season on a historical note.
Maybe a successful campaign will further the expenditure plans for the following season and Pep will be able to put in an offer that Juventus will not be able to refuse.
