Manchester City are one of the best teams in England at the moment but the squad under Pep Guardiola has its own shortcomings, that will be addressed this summer. The Spanish tactician has already started scouting for players who can improve his squad and one name that was constantly doing the rounds is Brazilian star, Fred.
A transfer target for City in January, Fred is a midfielder, just the kind Manchester City are missing at the moment. They are in search of a player, who can play in the no.6 role in front of the backline and wanted Fred in January. However, reports now claim that they are no longer interested in the Shakhtar man and are looking for alternatives.
But who can they sign? Here are three such midfielders Manchester City should start scouting for:
Jorginho (SSC Napoli):
The Italian international is expected to be a wanted man in the summer with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City already interested in his services. A dynamic midfielder, who can walk into the best squads in Europe, Jorginho has been one of the most consistent players for Italian giants Napoli this season and has spoken about his interest of moving to England recently. He fits into Guardiola’s style of play pretty well and is a superb solution to the midfield problems at Etihad.
Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund):
The 22-year old German international, who is currently struggling to find consistency at Signal Iduna Park, Weigl is probably the first choice midfielder for the German national team at Russia and is regarded as one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe at the moment. He has shown his ability to play in a number of midfield roles and though has not been at his best in a struggling Dortmund side, is just the right man for Manchester City. However, he will be an expensive option for Guardiola.
Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid):
The Croatian midfielder, who prefers to play in a slightly advanced role, Kovacic is also a decent fit into Guardiola’s system at City. He can play as the deepest of the midfielders, controlling the game and adding creativity to an already impressive midfield. He has been struggling to get into the first team at Bernabeu and could end up quitting at the end of the season. There will be no shortage of suitors and City will have to act fast to snatch him up this summer.
