Less than a year after lifting the Premier League trophy, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are currently struggling to break into the top-4 of the points table this season. They list a talisman in Diego Costa at the start of the season and have not been able to replace his creativity and goal-scoring prowess in the first team yet.
They spent on Alvaro Morata in the summer and backed it up by signing Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window but neither of those players have impressed Conte, who might be in the market for a striker in the upcoming transfer window. But one Chelsea striker who is loving his season is Belgian maverick Michy Batshuayi.
Having joined the Blues in 2016, Batshuayi failed to impress the Italian manager and made just one PL start in his debut season at the club. He seemed to have found some confidence early this season and picked up two goals and an assist in just three league starts at Stamford Bridge before he was shipped off to Borussia Dortmund to give Giroud a place in the squad.
In just six Bundesliga starts for the German outfit, Batshuayi has looked a completely different player and has six goals and an assist to his name and has been crucial to Dortmund’s decent run in the last couple of months. His form will give Conte some hope for the next season but Batshuayi has today opened up about his future and it is not easy viewing for the Chelsea faithful.
Speaking to the media from the team base for the Belgian national team, the 24-year old revealed that he is happy with his progress in Germany and claimed that the reception at Westfalenstadion and from its fans is the key behind his success this season.
He went on to say that he wants more of the same in his career, which has sparked rumours that he is not too keen on moving back to England at the end of the season. Chelsea remain his parent club and will decide whether they will let him leave this summer but do you think Chelsea should hold on to Batshuayi?
His potential is open for all to see but Batshuayi did not do enough to make an impact on Conte’s choices for his first team. The fact that the Italian decided to spend on a reputed name by letting Batshuayi leave shows that he does not rate the Belgian and his form in Bundesliga should not affect it.
He may still be a world beater but the Batshuayi is yet to prove himself in England and losing him will not be the end of the world for the Blues. However, they will have to find the right man in the transfer market to lead their attack next season. Do you think it can be Basthuayi?
