Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a part of a nine-man shortlist of Paris Saint-Germain’s managerial targets this summer. According to recent reports, the Ligue 1 outfit are ready to sack their current manager Unai Emery at the end of the current campaign after the French giants crashed out of the UEFA Champions League knockout stages at the hands of Real Madrid.
It is believed that Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is their number one target but they have also made a contingency plan with eight potential candidates being lined up for the managerial role at the Parc des Princes. Some sources in the French media have also claimed that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is one of the candidates for the role after the German manager has impressed with his style of ‘heavy metal’ football at Anfield since his arrival at Merseyside in October 2015.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s current contract at Liverpool runs out in 2022 which makes a move to PSG highly unlikely in the summer. Hence, it feels like a story to fill the papers as the German boss remains committed to the Liverpool clause and will hope that his Reds side can challenge for major trophies next season.
Liverpool lie in the 3rd position in the Premier League table after their sensational 5-0 win over Watford on Saturday. They are above Spurs with 8 matches remaining this term.
However, the Reds are a massive 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City going into the final stretch of the season. Liverpool can’t afford to let go of a top class manager like Jurgen Klopp in the near future so they should do all they can to retain his services for years to come.
The Merseysiders have progressed under Jurgen Klopp over the last few years and it would be foolish of them to let him depart as the club is expected to compete for major silverware next season. Klopp has taken charge of 143 matches for Liverpool so far, winning 75, drawing 41 and losing 27 of those matches with a healthy Points Per Game (PPG) average of 1.86. His record at Anfield has been impressive, to say the least, but what has really resonated with the fans is the attractive style of play that he has established at Merseyside. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Klopp and whether the Reds are able to keep hold of him for the next few years.
