Napoli seems to have ‘named their price’ for their Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is a former Liverpool target. According to recent reports, the Reds could reignite their interest in the 23-year-old midfielder. The Merseyside outfit previously had a £11.5m turned down by Udinese in the summer of 2016, with the Polish international favouring a switch to Naples instead.
He has developed well at San Paolo over the last few years and has established himself as one of the most integral members of the Napoli squad this season which has led to his manager Maurizio Sarri praising him as a potential successor of Kevin De Bruyne. Some sources in the Italian media are claiming that the Serie A outfit has slapped a £58m price-tag on Zielinski in their quest to fend off interest and retain their prized asset for the immediate future.
It is believed that they have done so to deter the likes of Liverpool who have previously chased the player. The former Udinese player has featured in 35 matches for Napoli this season, scoring 8 goals and providing two assists in all competitions. Zielinski is highly versatile and can operate as a central midfielder or on the left wing which makes him an ideal asset for any team.
The Merseyside club are currently sitting in 3rd place in the Premier League table after securing a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to West Ham United on Saturday. The Anfield-based outfit find themselves just above Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fourth place with a two-point gap separating the two teams at the moment.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are a massive 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City which indicates that they need to bring in a few fresh faces in the summer to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The addition of Zielinski will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options as they look to mount a realistic title challenge next season.
Zielinski has 31 international caps for the Poland national team and has found the back of the net three times for his country so far. He has a wealth of experience of playing at the top level which makes him a perfect fit for the Premier League. At 23, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Liverpool could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Zielinski and whether the Reds reignite their interest in the Polish talent before embarking on their new campaign.
