Bayern Munich defender David Alaba could be ready to leave the Bundesliga giants in search of fresh adventures next summer with Liverpool keeping tabs on the player. According to recent reports, the 25-year-old is weighing his options and has left the door open for a move away from Munich in the summer. The Austrian wing-back has featured in 28 matches for Bayern Munich this season helping his side gain a healthy 20-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
The Bayern ace has had a successful time in Germany since making a move to the Allianz Arena as a 10-year-old from Austrian Wien. He has gone on to win six Bundesliga titles while playing over 300 matches for the Bavarians. Alaba is now being monitored by a whole host of European clubs which includes Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Alaba’s current deal with FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2021 so the Bundesliga giants won’t be willing to let him leave on the cheap. In a recent interview, the Austrian full-back addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “I am aware that this decision will come to me,’
“I still feel very comfortable here, but I can also imagine taking a different path, taking the next step or looking for a new challenge.
“It’s an exit that I’m leaving open for the moment. I’m going to focus on the goals I’ve set for this season, I have goals and I’m going to fight for it.
“What will I do in the future? It’s something I’m wondering, since I do not see myself here for five more years.
“In football, nothing happens very fast and I know that there will come a time to make a decision. I set short-term goals.
The addition of Alaba will strengthen the Reds backline as they look to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs going into the future.
Liverpool has the likes of Andrew Robertson and Alberto Moreno vying for a starting berth in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team. Robertson has impressed in the second half of the season and is regularly featuring for the Merseyside outfit in recent weeks while the jury is still out for Moreno. The potential signing of Alaba will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s defensive options for the new campaign and add some competition for places in the Reds backline.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Alaba and whether he ends up making a move to the Premier League in the near future.
