Liverpool are eager to make a move for AC Milan midfielder Suso. According to recent reports, the Reds are preparing to make an offer for their former player’s signature in an effort to address the hole left in their midfield by the departure of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona during the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old Spaniard made a switch to Anfield in 2010 as a teenager but departed five years later having failed to secure a regular starting berth at the Merseyside club. He signed for AC Milan and also had a loan spell at Genoa before becoming an integral member of the Milan side.
Some sources are claiming that Suso has a €40m release clause and Jurgen Klopp could take advantage of it by making a move for his services at the end of the season. The Spaniard has finally taken strides towards fulfilling his potential and has established himself as one of the most creative players in the Serie A. His impressive performances for the Italian side has earned him an international call-up for Spain and now, he is desperately working towards making the cut for Spain’s 2018 World Cup squad.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are in 3rd place and an incredible 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City which indicates that they need to bring in some new players in the summer to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester sides in the coming years. The addition of Suso will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options as they look to mount a realistic title challenge next season. The Reds already have the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vying for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven so the potential arrival of Suso will definitely add competition for places at Anfield.
Suso has featured in 36 matches for AC Milan this season and has found the back of the net 8 times while also making 11 assists in all competitions. He has a wealth of experience of playing at the top level which makes him a perfect fit for the Premier League. At 24, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Liverpool could look to utilize in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Suso and whether the Reds reignite their interest in the Spanish talent before embarking on their new campaign.
