Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is set to leave the club and is now keen on joining Real Madrid at the end of the season. According to recent reports, the German international, who will become a free agent in the summer, is eager to join the Galacticos once his Liverpool contract runs out. The 24-year-old has featured regularly in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team this season but his future is up in smokes with no new deal on the table so far. Can has featured in 35 matches for the Reds this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions.
A potential move to Juventus has been heavily touted in recent months as the Italian giants look to bolster their midfield options for the coming years. It was also reported that Chelsea and Manchester United are keeping tabs on his situation and could make a surprise move for Can next summer. However, some sources in the Spanish media has recently indicated that the former Bayern Munich player is hoping for a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium during the off-season.
It is believed that Can is well aware of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s desire to overhaul Los Blancos’ underperforming squad in the summer. The Liverpool midfield enforcer apparently wants to be a key member of that project. The Galacticos could be tempted by the opportunity to secure the services of the German on a free transfer with increasing doubts over the futures of their midfielders Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic.
It is understood that Can has not ruled out a move to Juventus just yet but is happy to make the Serie A side wait and see whether Real Madrid comes in for his signature next summer. Liverpool are preparing for a crunch clash versus Manchester United on Saturday and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the German international can play a significant part in securing a favourable result for the Reds of Merseyside.
Liverpool are currently sitting in the 3rd position in the Premier League table after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Newcastle United on Saturday.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are a staggering 18 points behind top-flight leaders Manchester City which indicates that they need to bring in a few fresh faces in the summer to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the next few years. The impending arrival of Naby Keita means that the Reds will have a ready-made replacement for Can when he decides to depart Anfield this summer. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Can and whether he ends up moving to the Spanish capital in the near future.
