Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler next summer. According to recent reports, the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked his board to make an offer for the German ace when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.
The Merseyside outfit are still on the lookout for a creative midfielder this summer after the departure of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona in the January transfer window. Klopp’s side are in rampant form in the league and has recently secured a comfortable 5-0 win versus Watford at Anfield courtesy of four goals from Mohamed Salah. However, the club are still in need of creative enforcer in midfield as evidenced by their recent defeat to Manchester United away at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp has identified Draxler to take up that role and wants to add him in the summer to boost their chances of mounting a title challenge in the following campaign. The Ligue 1 winger has struggled to feature regularly for PSG this season and has also been linked with a move to Arsenal. Some sources are now claiming that the Reds are prepared to rival the Gunners in pursuit of the German midfielder this off-season. Draxler has featured in 38 matches for the Parisians this season, scoring 4 goals while creating 9 assists across all competitions.
The Reds are currently sitting in the 3rd position in the Premier League table after their wonderful 5-0 victory over Watford on Saturday.
However, the Merseysiders are a massive 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City going into the business end of the season. The addition of Draxler next summer would go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The five-time European champions require a top quality creative midfielder if they are to challenge for silverware next season and in Draxler, that’s what they will be getting.
The German is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He can play as a central midfielder or down the left flank which makes him a perfect fit for Klopp’s style of play at Anfield. At 24, he still has his peak years ahead of him which the Reds could look to utilise in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the PSG ace and whether he ends up making a switch to Merseyside in the near future.
