As per one of the latest reports by The Star, Leeds United have been rumoured to be interested to sign Barnsley’s left-back, Andy Yiadom, in the summer transfer window. Yiadom is out of contract in the summer and last summer, he was linked with the likes of Swansea City and Huddersfield Town but his exit from the Oakwell didn’t materialize.
Yiadom emerged through the youth ranks of Watford but he commenced his senior career with Hayes & Yeading United. After spending a season with them, he moved to the ranks of Braintree Town before moving to Barnet. His impressive spell with Barnet persuaded the Tykes to make him sign on the dotted line in the summer of 2016.
He has been a decent player for Barnsley and despite the fact that his club has been in a stuttering form this season in the Championship, he has begged to differ from most of his teammates. In 25 appearances in the English second division, the Ghana international has notched up 3 assists. Besides, he has inked 2 tackles, 1 interception, 3.3 clearances and 0.6 block per game on an average.
Capable of plying his trade as a left-back as well as a right-back, he is a versatile player with a significant amount of experience under his belt. He is an excellent dribbler and crosses the ball well. Besides, Yiadom reads the attacking endeavours of the opposition in a pretty astute manner and despite the fact that he isn’t a player who draws a lot of limelight, he gets his job done without making a fuss.
Laurens De Bock has flattered to deceive after his entry to the Elland Road in the summer and Vurnon Anita hasn’t been able to operate properly from the left-back slot. With the hopes of promotion done and dusted, Heckingbottom needs to ensure that he makes the most of the summer transfer window as he needs to lure some quality names to his ranks.
The left-back slot has been an area of concern for the Whites and given that Yiadom would come as a free transfer, Heckingbottom might fancy securing his services. He has managed to fare well in the Championship this season amidst the chaos which Barnsley find themselves in. However, how he performs in the upcoming games would be crucial and Heckingbottom needs to keep close tabs on the defender.
