As per one of the latest reports by Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are perceived to have started the process of extending Pablo Hernandez’s contract. Hernandez’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and thus, formal talks for the extension of his stay at the Elland Road beyond the ongoing season have commenced.
The future of Hernandez has been in doubt for quite some time now after the 32-year-old recently admitted that he was yet to offer new terms by the club. The 32-year-old has been a handy asset for the Championship outfit ever since his move from Al-Arabi. Initially, he moved on loan before signing permanently for the Whites and there is no denying that he should be kept in their ranks by hook or by crook.
Leeds United started the season in a decent manner under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen but lost their way midway. After Christiansen was sacked by the board, Paul Heckingbottom took command over the steering wheel but his troops are yet to chalk favourable results with consistency. However, Hernandez has been one of the bright sparks in what has been a forgettable season for the club.
So far this campaign, Hernandez has plundered 5 goals and has also registered 7 assists to his name in the league. He has been lethal up front and has been the creative engine for the Yorkshire based outfit more often than not. One of the appealing traits that he has offered is his versatility as he has operated from either wing as well as a central attacking midfielder.
The Spaniard has acclimatized himself with English football in a pretty handsome manner. He is an astute passer of the ball and is a set-piece specialist. Hernandez’s cunningness up front has been evident as his crosses, ability to create chances and exceptional vision has really helped his employers time and again. Besides, he holds the ball really well and brings his teammates into the equation in the final third.
Heckingbottom has to keep his main players in his arsenal next season and it is not really surprising to see them planning to roll out a new deal for the Spaniard. Leeds United have withered away in the race for promotion to the Premier League and thus, they must come back stronger next season and someone like Hernandez would certainly be a pivotal player in their upcoming endeavours.
