Leeds United made a good start to their Championship campaign this season as they churned productive results and played eye-catchy football under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen. Owing to their form during the first half of the season, they seemingly appeared to be a side capable of bagging a ticket to the Premier League.
However, Christiansen and his troops failed to keep the momentum going and after a winless run of seven games, Christiansen was shown the exit door. Although Paul Heckingbottom was appointed as the new manager, the Whites are still stuttering in the league and their hopes of promotion are certainly a distant dream now. Impliedly, Heckingbottom needs to rebuild the side from the scratch in the summer.
One of the major weaknesses in the setup of the Whites has been the lack of quality or class of their central midfielders. Adam Forshaw might have made an impact after making his move to the Elland Road in the summer but he has to do a lot more for his new employers. Ronaldo Vieira has flattered to deceive this season and Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane’s days at Leeds United seem to be heavily numbered.
As per one of the latest reports by the Mirror, the Yorkshire based club have put Shrewsbury Town’s central midfielder, Jon Nolan, on their radar. Nolan has been in a decent touch in League One this season, having scored 8 goals from 36 appearances, and no wonder why Heckingbottom is monitoring him closely. Nolan has been an instrumental figure for the Salop, who are one of the favourites to earn a promotion to the Championship.
The 25-year-old is a player who has showcased immense creative prowess in the final third this season and has galloped forward time and again to find the back of the net. Having emerged through the youth ranks of Everton, he had accumulated a notable amount of experiences of English football whilst playing for the senior side of Stockport County, Lincoln Town, Wrexham, Grimsby Town and Chesterfield.
Nolan, owing to the calibre he possesses, would bring some freshness to the ranks of Leeds United and would inject some much-needed quality in the central midfield. Although his move to the Elland Road would not be a ground shattering deal, he has the potential to make an impact. Nonetheless, the Peacocks must aim for one or two galvanizing signings also in the summer transfer window to boost their chances of promotion next season.
