Norwich City’s James Maddison is arguably one of the players Leeds United would have tried to sign in the summer. The 21-year-old has been absolutely impeccable in the Championship this season for the Canaries, having scored 13 goals and registered 7 assists.
However, one of the latest reports has stated that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to prise him out of the Carrow Road, which might just take Paul Heckingbottom’s side out of the equation completely. Besides, Norwich City have slapped a price tag of £25million on his collar, which is way too much to ask from the Yorkshire based outfit.
Nonetheless, here are three players which Heckingbottom can target in the summer to add more attacking prowess to his side.
Tom Rogic
Celtic’s central attacking midfielder, Tom Rogic, would be a galvanizing signing by Heckingbottom. Rogic’s contract with the Scottish giants is due to expire next season and negotiations to extend his stay at the Celtic Park haven’t gone very well, which has sparked a lot of speculations about his future.
The Australian international has not been given adequate opportunities by Bhoys’ manager, Brendan Rodgers, this season and his injury spells have not been very kind to him either. With just 16 starts this season, Rogic has not been able to thrive well and a move to the Elland Road should benefit all the parties involved.
Ahmad Benali
Manchester City’s youth product, Ahmad Benali, has certainly made his presence felt in Serie B as he has smashed 4 goals in 15 appearances in the league after his loan move to Crotone in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old had plied his trade with Brescia, and Pescara after he was released by the Citizens and has a substantial amount of experience under his belt.
Benali might not be a ground shattering signing but owing to his tendency to find the back of the net and to create chances for his teammates, he can be a decent addition to Heckingbottom’s ranks. Besides, he is an efficient dribbler, is good with his movements and is found to be comfortable in the tight spaces.
Jamie Paterson
One of the standout performers for Bristol City this season has been their versatile midfielder, Jamie Paterson. The 26-year-old has plundered 5 goals and has also racked up 8 assists from 35 appearances in the Championship and there is no denying that he has been a vital cog in his side’s attacking endeavours.
Paterson can operate as a central midfielder, central attacking midfielder as well as a winger and would certainly add a lot of quality to the attacking arsenal of the Peacocks. Besides, he is an astute passer of the ball, is a set-piece specialist and makes immense defensive contributions to save the blushes of his employers.
