Manchester United may have an exciting squad at their disposal but they are still in search of players who can fill in the gaps, that have allowed complacency to seep it this season. Jose Mourinho has already started planning for the future and is continuously linked with a move for a number of star players in the summer transfer window.
The latest name now doing the rounds is Inter Milan star Antonio Candreva.
A transfer target for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea as well, Candreva has not been able to replicate his form from the previous season at San Siro this term and could be sold at the end of the campaign. He recently spoke about his interest in English football and both Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to make bids for him in the upcoming transfer window. Is he the right man for United?
A versatile midfielder, who can play as a wing-back, as an attacking midfielder or as a central midfielder, Candreva is an experienced star, who has now played for eight different clubs in Serie A till date. He won the Copa Italia with Lazio in 2013 but has not been able to lift the league title in any of the 11 seasons he has spent in the Italian top flight.
A specialist over a dead ball, the 31-year old has a knack of creating chances for his side, thanks to his vision and technique. He is a confident player, with great hold up play and dominance with the ball at his feet. He has eight assists in 25 Serie A games this season but is yet to find the back of the net.
But he has 54 goals and 63 assists in 301 Serie A appearances till date and is one of the most experienced players in his role in Italy at the moment. He also has 52 appearances for the Italian national side and is a utility player most teams in Europe would love to have in their side.
Manchester United spent on Nemanja Matic in the summer but need another midfielder, now that they are ready to sell Ander Herrera at the end of the campaign. Scott McTominay has done well to show some stele at the highest level but Mourinho needs an established player, who can help them against the best teams in the world.
They might want to spend on a younger midfielder but Candreva and his experience might be just what United need at the moment. He can fill in a number of roles to great effect and will add numbers to the squad, which will help them compete in all competitions next season.
But do you think he is the right man for United?
