Everton are in pole position to secure the services of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere next summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners midfielder is being monitored by the Toffees ahead of a potential move in the summer. The 26-year-old is currently sidelined due to an injury which he suffered while training with the England national team.
It was revealed by the England manager Gareth Southgate that the midfielder was suffering from inflamed knee tendons which kept him out of their matches versus Holland and Italy respectively. However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that it won’t keep him out of action for long, which will boost the Gunners’ hopes of ensuring a strong finish to their Premier League campaign.
Wilshere is contracted to Arsenal until the end of this season so a move away from the Emirates Stadium looks set to be on the cards. Some sources are now claiming that Everton has shown a strong interest in securing Wilshere’s signature if he decided to leave the North London club when he becomes a free agent this summer. He has featured in 26 matches for the Gunners this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in all c0mpetitions.
The Toffees are currently sitting in the 9th position in the Premier League standings with a tally of 40 points in 31 matches. They are just three points behind Burnley who are sitting in 7th place with a home match versus Manchester City looming on the horizon.
The addition of Wilshere will undoubtedly bolster Sam Allardyce’s midfield options going into the new campaign as he looks to close the gap between themselves and the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in the coming years. The Toffees have the likes of Gylfi Sigurðsson, Nikola Vlašić and Wayne Rooney who are vying for a place in Sam Allardyce’s starting eleven. The potential signing of Wilshere will definitely add more competition for places in the Everton squad as they look to compete on all fronts next season.
The 26-year-old midfielder has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and if he can overcome his recent injury concerns, he could turn out to be a major coup for the Blues of Merseyside. The possibility of signing Wilshere on a free transfer will be too good to turn down so they should go all out to secure his services in the summer. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Wilshere and whether he ends up making a switch to Goodison Park in the near future.
